1st Day: Cusco - Chachabamba - Wiñaywayna - Machu Picchu

The legendary “Inca trail special” starts by picking up at your hotel in the morning, to drive to Ollantaytambo train station (depending on your train schedule). We will have about one hour train until 104 km (2,200 m.a.s.l. / 7,218 ft).

Where our real adventure begins, we cross a bridge over the Urubamba river to our checkpoint to start this exciting trek on the mountains. After walking for 15 minutes, we reach Chachabamba, our first archaeological park. We have a spare time to explore, then we walk for about 4 hours up Inca stairs until Wiñaywayna (2,650 m.a.s.l. / 8,694 ft). Along the trek on the mountains we can observe the majestic Sacred Valley, Waterfalls and some kind of orchid flowers, typical from the tropical area.

Wiñaywayna comes from the beautiful orchid flower typical of this semi-tropical area, it means “forever young”. The Wiñaywayna archaeological site has twenty different Inca constructions like Temple of the Rainbow and Temple of the Fertility.

After enjoying the view and recharging energy, we have a short 2 hour walk until Inti Punku or Sun Gate (2,2720 m.a.s.l. / 8,924 ft). In the Inca´s time the Sun Gate used to be a checkpoint in order to enter to Machu Picchu. Upon our arrival we will have our first panoramic view of one of the most enigmatic construction of the Inca empire, Machu Picchu.

Finally, we descend for 40 minutes to Machu Picchu, a wonderful Inca construction located on the top of the mountain. We have a short break before our last walk down to Aguas Calientes town (2,160 m.a.s.l. / 7,087 ft). Where we head to our hotel to spend the night and reload energy.

In case the trek was a piece of cake for you. Aguas Calientes has a wide range of bars and clubs for you to have fun. Although, Aguas Calientes gives you the option to recharge energy in its magical hot springs, located 10 minutes from the main square.
