Places to Visit and Panoramic Views

Cusco city
  • Sacsayhuaman: It is the largest and most impressive of the four ruins outside Cusco, Peru. It was built during the Government of Pachacutec, in the 15th century. However, it was Huayna Cápac who ended it in the 16th century.
  • Qenqo: It means “maze or twisted labyrinth”. The name translates as zig zag, perhaps by the small channels carved with the stroke that you see in the rocks of the place and may have been used to lead the chicha or the blood of the sacrificed llamas. It lies east of Sacsayhuaman, at an altitude of 3600 m.a.s.l on an outcrop of limestone formation of Yunkaypata that was formed in the Cretaceous about 80 million years ago.
  • Pukapucara: It is a military building located near Cusco in Peru. This fortress made of large walls, terraces and stairways, it was part of the defensive set of Cusco and The Inca Empire.
  • Tambomachay: Tambomachay “means a place of rest” although similarly referred to as “Baños del inca” or “baños de la ñusta”. The double name “bath of the inca” and “bath of the ñusta”. It is by the presence in the complex of two aqueducts which transport clean water throughout the year.
Sacred Valley of the Incas
  • Pisac town: The town of Pisac is just 45 minutes from the city of Cusco. Sundays are the best day to visit this beautiful town and its handicraft market. We can find from musical instruments to clothing made from Alpaca wool all these made by people from the nearby villages who come down to Pisac wearing their typical costumes to offer their best products.
  • Pisac archaeological park: It is an archaeological complex, located 30 kilometers away from Cusco. It has the form of the Partridge of the Andes (perdiz de puna.) Property of the Inca Pachacutec, it possesses terraces or platforms, domestic and ceremonial structures, and aqueducts that provided water for agriculture.

  • Ollantaytambo: Ollantaytambo is one of the most impressive fortresses of the Tahuantinsuyo, built for military, religious purpose. It was built by the command of Pachacutec. The archaeological site involves superimposed terraces, showing the large and impressive blocks finely carved in stone located on the upper terrace as the Temple of the Sun.
  • Moray terraces
  • Maras salt mines: The salt mines are approximately 3000 wells, fed by an underground stream. It is 3380 meters, and to 56.8 km away from Cusco, in the Sacred Valley. According to the legend, the salt is formed from the tears of Ayar Cachi (one of the brothers of Ayar Manco founder of Cusco), who dies in tears because he could not found the Tahuantinsuyo. The sun dries out the salt forming salt mines with pink and lilac tones.
  • Chinchero: Chinchero was the place chosen by the Inca Tupac Inca Yupanqui to establish his residence. He ordered to build beautiful palaces for his personal use and his Panaca. In 1536 in the height of the invasion, Manco Inca began his rebellion burning Chinchero so Spaniards will not renew their provisions and to stop pursuing him in his retreat to unknown regions in the jungle.
Machu Picchu

Built before the 15th century, located in the Eastern Mountain Range South Peru. In a mountain chain 2430 m.a.s.l. The sanctuary - National Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu is a cultural and natural area according to the UNESCO. With an area of extension of 37302 hectares. It is one of the areas with the greatest biodiversity of the Peru and has more than 60 archaeological monuments, articulated through a complex network of Inca roads.

1
1st Day: Arrival to Cusco, Sacred Valley, Pisac

Pick up and welcome at the airport upon your arrival. We transfer you to your chosen hotel in Pisac, heart of the Sacred Valley.

During our journey to Pisac, we pass archaeological Inca constructions like Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay. In case we have time, we make short stops to contemplate these incredible Inca constructions. Also, we stop at Manos de la Comunidad textile center.

The road to Pisac goes around the Andes and it offers us an incredible view of the whole Sacred Valley. Finally, we arrive in Pisac, we take you directly to your hotel.

2nd Day: Kinsa Qocha, Ancas Qocha and Puma Qocha – Pisac

We drive 45 minutes from Pisac towards Paru Paru village. First, we visit Kinsa Qocha lagoon, then we head to the beautiful Laguna Azul or Blue lagoon. Later, we have a delicious and typical lunch made with local products. Our lunch takes place either in a restaurant in Paru Paru or in the nature like a Picnic. After lunch, we go to the next astounding destination. The Puma lagoon, it is a beautiful geographic formation with turquoise shining water.

After our meal, we return to Pisac to go up to the impressive Intihuatana Archaeological Park, built on top of the mountains in the Sacred Valley.

3rd Day: Tierra de los sabios (Wise Land) – Experiential tourism “Llacta Qawarina” Pisac

Pick up from your hotel to go up to Sacaca Andean town. Then, we walk about 30 minutes towards Tambo Raqqay Archaeological Park. After a short stop, we walk to KabraKancha. We have a welcome by the locals with traditional flowers, music and they perform a small ceremony.

Our programs go according to the celebration or the local activity during the year, month, week and even day like planting, cultivating or harvesting. Also, we must notice that Peru has many Andean-Religious festivities, that influence in the local traditions.

Later, we have a demonstration of how to prepare the Pachamanca traditional Peruvian dish buried in the ground. Then, we participate in an ancestral knowledge transmitted from generation to generation. The alternative medicine or natural medicine based on natural ingredients and wise ancestral knowledge.

El parque de la papa or Potato Park is a natural research laboratory about climate changing, biodiversity, traditional knowledge and flora preservation in this region.

We finally head for the cave paintings of Chahuaytire. Camel Cave paintings of primitive men from 5,000 years B.C.

4th Day: Perolniyoc – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

We continue our journey through the sacred Valley of the Incas. We make a stop in Pachar and then Socma. From this point, we start walking about one hour until Racaypata Archaeological Park, made of stones and clay.

We rest for some minutes because we must ascend to the beautiful natural waterfalls of Perolniyoc, it has a about 100 meters height. There, we enjoy the beauty and crystal water, also you can soak your feet and even take a bath.

After relaxing, we walk down to have lunch, but during our trek we observe from the distance Ñaupa Archaeological Park. (Old church).

Finally, we drive to Ollantaytambo train station to go to Aguas Calientes.

5th Day: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Ollantaytambo

Breakfast in the morning and a bus ride to Machu Picchu. Then we have a tour to discover its secrets and explore through this beautiful wonder of the Inca Empire. After the tour, you have free time to wonder around at your own pace. The spectacular experience of Machu Picchu will stay forever in your mind, heart and soul.

In the afternoon, we take bus down to Aguas Calientes to get lunch. Later, we walk to the train station to return to Ollantaytambo.

6th Day: Ollantaytambo – Maras & Moray – Cusco

The old living city of Ollantaytambo is perfect to learn more about the Incas, with its narrow pavestone streets and local people.

We start the tour visiting Ollantaytambo Archaeological Park. Then, we drive to Urubamba to have lunch. Later, we have a bus ride to Moray terraces or Inca Experimental Agriculture Center.

After, we explore the picturesque colonial village of Maras. There, we visit Mara´s salt mines. Located in the middle of the mountains and exploited only by locals. The salt produced in these mines are exported to different countries in Latin America.

Continuing our journey, we stop in Chinchero. We observe and learn about the ancient textile techniques of the Incas. At the same time, we visit Chinchero viewpoint to have a panoramic view of the Archaeological Park of Chinchero.

7th Day: Palccoyo – Colorful Andes – Peruvian Andes

Pick up from your hotel, then we head towards Combapata village. After a delicious breakfast, we head to the new trend Palccoyo mountain.

During our trek to Palccoyo, we pass by the mysterious Stone Forest. The natural formation will grab your attention. We stop to take some pictures and to observe the natural flora and fauna of the region.

The reddish, greenish and yellowish tones of Palccoyo will leave at a loss of words during the whole trek. It is important to mention that Palccoyo mountain is the result of the same phenomenon of Vinicunca or the rainbow mountain. It originated because of the presence of sedimentary rocks in erosion, which were covered with a white coating on the entire the Andes of Peru.

After enjoying the spectacular panoramic views, we return in the same way to get a delicious and replenished lunch. On our way back to Cusco, depending on the time, we can visit the Archaeological Front of Rumicqolqa. Inca hydraulic construction of the passage of the Qhapaq Ñan.

8th Day: Cusco – Lima

After breakfast, you have free time in Cusco depending on your fly back to Lima. Transport from your hotel to the airport.
